Selling a Haslett house from out of town

Haslett grew up around Lake Lansing, which drew crowds long before it was a suburb: first a spiritualist camp in the 1880s, then the Lake Lansing Amusement Park. Today it is a settled residential community with its own school district.

Established suburbs like Haslett are full of houses owned by someone who no longer lives nearby, such as a parent’s home left to children in other states, or a house kept after a job move. Selling from a distance is hard: someone has to clear the house, meet contractors and be on hand for showings.

A sale to Dave has no showings, the cleanout is handled for inherited houses, and you set the closing date around your travel. The closing is handled by a local title company.

Distance makes storm damage harder, too. Severe thunderstorms in August 2024 brought down large trees and power lines across Haslett, on Hillview Drive, Cypress Street and Harvey Street among others, and Haslett was among the hardest-hit communities for outages in the June 2026 storms. If a fallen tree or a leak has damaged the house and an insurance claim is open, Dave’s offer can be contingent on the claim, though it is usually best to hold the sale until the claim closes. Life around Lake Lansing

Lake Lansing covers 461 acres and has two public parks, Lake Lansing Park North and South, with beaches, fishing and a boat launch; the Michigan State University Sailing Club and the Lansing Sailing Club sail there. From 1934 until 1974 an amusement park with a wooden roller coaster stood where Park South is now. Haslett is bordered by East Lansing to the west and Okemos to the south, Business Loop I-69 runs through its northwest corner toward Interstate 69, and part of the Inter-Urban Pathway passes through.

The community takes its name from James and Sarah Haslett, who founded the Nemoka Spiritualist Camp on Pine Lake, as Lake Lansing was first called. Spiritualists began camping there in 1882, and by the late 1800s thousands came each summer for meetings, readings and lectures. After James Haslett died in 1891, his widow sold the land in 1898 to the Haslett Park Association, which turned it into the amusement park that Lansing’s trolley line served. Haslett has its own post office, and Haslett Public Schools runs Murphy and Vera Ralya elementary schools, Haslett Middle School and Haslett High School.
