Selling a newer Bath Township home after a life change
Bath Township has some of the newest housing around Lansing: the median home here dates to 1996, and the township grew from 11,598 people in 2010 to 13,292 in 2020.
Newer homes rarely need major repairs, so the reasons to sell quickly are usually personal: a divorce, a job transfer, a death in the family, or payments that got out of reach.
In those moments a predictable sale matters. Dave pays cash, so there is no buyer’s loan to fall through, and you choose the closing date.
Some owners who move away keep the house as a rental first. The Census puts the median rent at $1,189 a month across the township and $1,251 in the Bath community. If being a long-distance landlord has worn thin, Dave can buy the house with the tenants still in it.

Park Lake and four school districts
The township was organized in 1839 as Ossowa Township, split from DeWitt Township, and was later renamed for Bath, New York. Park Lake, at its southern edge, became a getaway for Lansing families after the capital moved to Lansing in 1847; by the early 1900s it was ringed with summer camps and cabins, and its dance pavilion hosted acts such as Tommy Dorsey until it burned in the 1930s. The township covers about 35 square miles, about 3 of them water. Its residents are served by four school districts: Bath, East Lansing, Haslett and Laingsburg.
The Bath community, the township’s census-designated place, is in its western part. Ossowa Township was split from DeWitt Township by an act of the governor, one of four splits between 1837 and 1841 that cut DeWitt Township down from the whole county. Around Park Lake, the early 1900s camps were run by churches and associations, alongside seasonal cabins and lodges, and the Park Lake Resort built its dance pavilion on pilings over the water. Before any of that, Park Lake was the start of the Park Lake Trail, a Native American route that met the Okemah Trail in what is now East Lansing.
Next to East Lansing, filed in St. Johns
Bath Township sits directly north of East Lansing but is in Clinton County, so its probate court, treasurer and register of deeds are in St. Johns.
Part of the township is served by East Lansing. Under a 425 agreement signed in June 2002, East Lansing provides services to 1,056 acres of Bath Township and gains full control of that land after 100 years. So a house near the southern edge may be in the township, in East Lansing under the agreement, or in East Lansing outright, and each answer changes who taxes it. The tax bill settles it, and Dave buys on every side of the line.
