Selling one of Leslie’s older houses as-is
Leslie has the oldest housing of any town on this site. More than half of the homes in the city (53%) were built before 1950, and the median home was built in 1947.
An old house is fine on its own, but one that has gone decades without major updates often needs a roof, a furnace, plumbing and electrical work all at once. A buyer with a mortgage may not be able to close until those are fixed, which leaves the seller paying for repairs or waiting.
Dave buys houses in any condition, including ones with mold or code violations, and pays cash, so there is no lender to satisfy. Leslie is about 21 miles south of Lansing in a straight line, well inside the area Dave covers.

A small city between Lansing and Jackson
Leslie sits just east of US-127 on the way to Jackson, and Huntoon Creek runs through downtown past the Little League fields. Elijah Woodworth built the first log cabin in 1836; the name Leslie became official with the post office in 1841, and the town became a village in 1869 and a city in 1968. Leslie Public Schools is a small rural district with nearly 1,400 students. The township around the city holds Teaspoon Hill, the highest point in Ingham County at just over 1,000 feet, and the headwaters of Sycamore Creek.
The town was first called Meekerville, after the pioneer Benjamin Meeker, before Jerry G. Cornell renamed it for a prominent Leslie family from his home state of New York. The writer Voltairine de Cleyre and federal judge Arthur J. Tuttle were born here, and Holling Clancy Holling, author and illustrator of Paddle to the Sea, graduated from Leslie High School in 1917. The high school moved to Hull Road in 1996; the old middle school on Woodworth Street, once the high school, was abandoned in 2005 and torn down in 2023. Distance running is a local tradition: the boys’ cross country team won 14 straight conference titles from 1990 to 2003 and a Class C state title in 1993.
Where Leslie estates and tax cases go
Leslie and Leslie Township are governed separately but are both in Ingham County, so an inherited Leslie house goes through the Ingham County Probate Court, and delinquent property taxes are collected by the Ingham County Treasurer in Mason.
Leslie Township was organized on December 30, 1837. It surrounds the city on every side, but the two are run separately, so a house just past the city line is taxed by the township, not the city. The township covers about 35 square miles, and as the Census figures above show, its homes are newer than the city’s and more of them are lived in by their owners.
